Luckily, the driver of the Ambassador Sulaiman, who was in the car when the mishap occurred, survived with minor cuts and scratches. There were no other passengers in the car.
Resident of Bantwal town, Sulaiman had been travelling in the Ambassador towards B C Road for hire, when a heavy branch fell on the car and caused damages. Officials from the revenue department visited the spot and inspected the damages.
A tragedy was averted as there were no other passengers in the car.
Stating that similar mishaps could occur at any given moment, the locals however, complain that the concerned officials did not take any precautionary measures. Several vehicles and school children ply along the road every day, and their lives are at risk, they say.
Houses damaged
Two houses were damaged in the heavy rain that lashed the taluk on Tuesday.
The houses of Sheenappa Poojary from Cheloor and Susheela from Panjikallu were damaged in two separate incidents.
Revenue officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection of both the houses. After making an estimation of the losses incurred by the damages, measures were taken to provide compensation to the affected families.
