Mangaluru, Apr 22: Heavy rains coupled with thunder and lightning lashed Mangaluru and other parts of Dakshina Kannada district causing loss of life and property damage on Tuesday night.

A woman from Bantwal taluk was gravely wounded and succumbed to death after being struck by lightning in Savanoor on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Rasheeda (29), wife of Basheer who is a resident of Bollayi in Sajipamooda village in Bantwal taluk.
Rasheeda had come to Manthoor near Savanoor two days previously to visit her sister settled here as her children had ongoing summer holidays after the end of their school term. During the heavy rain that lashed the taluk on Tuesday evening, she was said to have been sitting inside the house when lightning struck and injured her gravely. She breathed her last before she could be admitted in the hospital.
She is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter. A case has been registered at Kadaba police station in this regard.
The post mortem of her body was performed at Puttur government hospital the same night.
With heavy rains lashing in all parts of Puttur taluk for over two hours on Tuesday evening, power supply had been cut off for most part of the night.
Cow dies, man injured from lightning
The heavy downpour that lashed all over the district also occurred in Belthangady taluk on Tuesday, with one incident of loss of life due to lightning coming to light.
Due to lightning having struck a cattle shelter at Kanchimaru in Dharmasthala village, a cow is said to have died as it was affected by it. It is said that there were 5-6 cows and calves in the shelter, out of which, one cow died from the lightning.
The lightning is also said to have gravely injured a man in the house next to the cattle shelter. PrabhaKar (37) is suffering from injuries on his back due to the lightning.
It is said that most parts of the taluk witnessed lightning and thunder along with slight rain from the past 2-3 days.
