Mangaluru, Jun 8: Finally, the long wait for Monsoon in India is over as the nodal weather agency of India, IMD, declared the arrival of Southwest Monsoon 2016 over Kerala.

South-west monsoon has set in over Kerala and Lakshadweep, said K Santosh, head of India Meteorological Department's regional centre. The IMD had earlier said that monsoon was likely to hit Kerala on June 9.
Rains over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka have picked up pace yet again. The good news is that the heavy to very heavy showers will continue over the region including Lakshadweep Islands for next 3-4 days, predicts Skymet Weather.
Meanwhile, heavy rains pounded several parts of coastal Karnataka including Mangaluru, wherein the sky remained overcast entire day.
Though parts of Southwest coast of India had been receiving good rains for past few days, certain criteria important for the declaration of Onset were not met.
The continued rains in Karnataka can be attributed to the two cyclonic circulations marked on the rather side of Peninsular India. The cyclonic circulation continues to persist in the Arabian Sea off the Coastal Karnataka and has been primarily responsible for the ongoing rains.
