Lucknow, Apr 26: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Friday resorted to low, vulgar attacks against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

He said, "Rahul used to go to the dalit households to experience honeymoon. And if he had married a dalit ki beti (dalit girl), then by now, who knows, he might have become the Prime Minister of India. I wonder why he is not marrying a dalit girl."

Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Ramdev said, "Rahul's tryst with bad luck has just started. He is not inclined to get married to a desi (an Indian) and he and his mother know that the Congress vice-president will not become the Prime Minister if he marries a foreigner."

He said unlike Rahul, Narendra Modi and Ramdev have not become “fakir” (single) under compulsion.

Further making highly improper and derogatory comments on the Gandhi scion, he said “Us bechare ki bhi kismat kharab hai (Rahul is unlucky)”, Ramdev said.

The yoga guru also attacked Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra for allegedly amassing huge wealth in a very short span of time.

Ramdev did not spare Congress president either and said, "Initially I had thought of going to Rae Bareli to campaign against her. But after seeing her ill-health, I decided to pardon her, and now, I would be focusing only on Amethi."

"And, let me tell you, after the election both Maiyaa (Sonia) and Bhaiyaa (Rahul) would disappear and fade into oblivion. In fact, this election would prove to be the final nail in the coffin of the Congress which has ruined the nation."

Commenting on Sonia's recent statement delivered at an election rally in Gujarat, where she had said that the Congress is responsible for today's India, Ramdev, said, "Yes, indeed. Congress alone is responsible for all the negativity which has creeped into the nation and among its citizens.

“His (Rahul's) mother says that if you marry a foreigner girl, then you cannot become the prime minister and this boy does not want to marry an Indian girl. His mother wants that first he becomes the prime minister and then marry a foreigner”, he added.

Later, in a damage-control exercise, Ramdev claimed he did not make the remarks in a negative sense and was willing to withdraw them if they have hurt the Dalit sentiments.

Earlier refuting Congress's allegations that he was campaigning for BJP in his yoga camps, Ramdev claimed his camps were “apolitical”.

“My yoga camps are apolitical... We do not appeal for votes in these camps... Airing views through the media is my constitutional right,” Ramdev told reporters here. Ramdev said he would go to Amethi on April 30 and claimed Rahul Gandhi would not be able to win Lok Sabha elections from there this time.

“Rahul will not win elections. It's 100 per cent certain... This time, BJP's Smriti Irani will win from Amethi. Kumar Vishwas (of AAP) has sowed the seeds against Rahul there (in Amethi) and Irani will get its benefit,” he claimed.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Educational institutions in Mangaluru that rely on the popular Mangala Stadium for their annual sports events are bracing for an inconvenience as the city's key sporting venue is set to close its gates for a significant upgrade. The stadium is expected to be unavailable for approximately two months starting from January 15, 2026.

The closure is necessitated by a proposed overhaul of the stadium's facilities, with a special focus on upgrading the synthetic track. Pradeep Dsouza, Assistant Director of the District of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Dakshina Kannada, confirmed the development.

"Experts have visited the stadium, conducted a thorough inspection, and have given the go-ahead for a complete makeover," Dsouza stated. "Funds have been allocated for the project, and we are currently awaiting the final green signal from state officials to commence the work. We anticipate that the work will likely begin in the second week of January. Consequently, we have stopped renting out the stadium to colleges and other organizations in preparation for the upgrade."

The timing presents a logistical challenge for colleges, as many schools have already concluded their sports meets.

"Colleges will now be organizing their events and will need to find alternative locations to host their sports meets," Dsouza added. He suggested a few potential venues, including the Dakshina Kannada police ground, University College grounds, Panambur grounds, Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri, and the Mangalore University sports grounds in Konaje.

However, many institutions note that finding a comparable venue will be difficult. While the DK police ground and University College grounds are closer to the city center, they do not possess the extensive facilities and infrastructure offered by Mangala Stadium.

Dr. P Dayananda Pai - P Satisha Govt First Grade College, Carstreet, is one such institution dependent on the stadium. Principal Jayakar Bhandary expressed hope for a swift completion of the work. "We expect the work to be completed at the earliest. If not, we will be forced to look for other venues to host the sports day for our students," Bhandary said, highlighting the pressing need for the city's main sporting facility.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
