Mangaluru, Dec 15: A special programme will be held on Sunday as a preliminary to the 12th'Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava' scheduled to be held in January 2015, which will include felicitations of veteran poet and Kannada activist Nadoja Dr Kayyara Kinhanna Rai and eminent folk scholar Amrutha Someshwar, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Monday, Mr Khader, who is also the honorary president of the Utsava committee, said that video documentaries of Rani Abbakka's history in the form of Yakshagana, theatre play (drama) and dance would be unveiled during the special programme to be held on December 21.
The unveiling of the documentaries and felicitation of Amrutha Someshwar will be held in Gatty community hall at Kapikad in Thokkottu at 1 p.m. while the felicitation of Nadoja Kinhanna Rai will be held at 10 a.m. at Peradala in Kasargod, he said.
The minister informed that a sum of Rs 40 lakhs had been sanctioned by the state government for the Abbakka Utsava event, which will be jointly organised by Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava Committee and Department of Kannada and Culture in Thumbay.
He also informed that the complete expenditure and costs of the Utsava to be held in January would be submitted by the Utsava committee within May without any delay.
