Bangalore, Aug 22: She ran down a dark road, covering at least 1km, and stopped only when she saw a car. Semi-nude and breathless, she flagged it down and reached a police station in Tavarekere, 27km west of Bangalore.
She had managed to sneak out as dawn broke. The 23-year-old woman recounted her horror to police, who swooped down on the farmhouse and arrested the trio.
The rape survivor and the trio were subjected to medical tests. Preliminary investigations confirmed rape, police said, adding that the car, a Maruti SX4, used to pick her up was seized.
The three men, Arun Narasimhamurthy Gowda, 24, Kempa Narasimha, 36, and Mahadev alias Mahadevaiah, 45, are said to be from affluent families. Arun is a cement and steel businessman from Magadi taluk. Kempa, also from Magadi, is a timber merchant, while Mahadev looked after the farmhouse that belongs to Arun's friend Muniraju. When police questioned Muniraju, he said he wasn't aware of the incident.
According to the survivor who is from Bihar, Arun and Kempa approached her when she was waiting for a bus to Bidadi, to reach home. "I was leaving my workplace around 10pm when two men offered to drop me near my home, claiming they were headed in the same direction. So I agreed to get into their car (KA 42 M 3624)," she said.
The duo drove to the farmhouse, saying they had some work to finish, and would drop her after that. "A third man joined them in the farmhouse. They locked me inside and raped me. I managed to escape from the room, ran to the road and reached the police station," she told police.
