
Mangalore, Jun 19: Mohammed Haneef (30), an alleged associate of underworld operatives Ravi Pujari and Khali Yogesh, was arrested by a team of Central Crime Branch police at Ullal railway station and recovered three live bullets and two mobile phones.
Terming the arrest as important, Police Commissioner R. Hithendra said the city police were on the lookout for Haneef for the last four months. A native of Uppal in Kasaragod, Haneef was staying in Balnad village in Puttur.
The police said Haneef reportedly supplied arms to persons involved in the assault of Uma, a resident of Devinagar near Talapady junction, and firing in air when her husband Keshav B. tried to intervene. Haneef was involved in a case registered by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Bangalore and in cases registered in Vittal and Konaje police station limits. Haneef was also an accused in cases registered in Manjeshwar, Kasaragod and Vidyanagar police stations in Kerala. As many as five non-bailable warrants were pending against Haneef, Mr. Hithendra said.
He was also accused of supplying arms to persons allegedly involved in firing at the house of an industrialist in Bevinje in Kasaragod police station limits in 2010. He was an accused in an attempt to murder case of Prabhakar Chowta in Manjeshwar in 2011.
