The victim has been identified as Janaki, 35, a midday meal cook at a nearby school. The police said that the incident took place just a few minutes later after she left her home, which is 200 metres away from the spot.
A speeding lorry hit her while she was walking on the bridge, killing her on the spot. The incident took place at around 9am.
According to the police, the spot has turned into a death-trap for many as frequent accidents are reported due to the narrow road. Irked by this, angry villagers gathered at the spot and pelted stones at the lorry and damaged the vehicle.
The driver of the lorry fled from the spot soon after the incident and police have seized the vehicle. A case has been registered at Puttur traffic police station.
