Mangalore, Nov 23: Vidyaprasanna Thirta Swami from Subramanya mutt inaugurated the renovated Bhadra Saraswati pond in the Ananthapadmanabha Temple at Kudupu on the city's outskirts on Friday.
The pond was refurbished at a cost of Rs. 70 lakhby the temple administrators. It has been a year since the renovated sanctum sanctorum of the temple was opened. The temple authorities have planned to change the flooring around the temple and also renovate the Naga Bana .
According to Narasimharaja Tantri, its priest, the temple pond has been renovated using red bricks.
The shape of the pond is a unique one and is designed as per the suggestions of Vedic scholars. The pond also has space for devotees to walk around.
Speaking on the occasion, Swami said temples like Kudupu provide an opportunity not only to cleanse our soul but the body. The temple, which has rich heritage, has retained its grandeur over the years. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said his belief in the temple and its presiding deity cannot be a'superstition'.
He said it was the responsibility of people to maintain cleanliness of the pond, the water of which was believed to be sacred. Mangalore North MLA Mohiuddin Bava and Chief General Manager of Karnataka Bank Jayaram Hande also spoke at the ceremony.
