
The two reporters, including a woman, who planned to carry out the sting, were trailing Mr Shivakumar for the last one week.
The duo, posing as representatives of a London-based power company, approached Mr Shivakumar seeking his approval to set up a regional office in Bangalore.
After meeting the duo a couple of days ago, Mr Shivakumar reportedly turned down their request for an official approval, citing election code of conduct. However the duo insisted on meeting him at his residence again on Monday. Suspecting something fishy, Mr Shivakumar informed the jurisdictional Sadashiva Nagar police.
While a team of policemen in plainclothes were deputed at the official residence of Mr Shivakumar at Sadashiva Nagar, the duo arrived on Monday afternoon and offered him a cash of Rs 5 lakh.
Immediately, the police team apprehended the duo with the cash and took them away to the police station. Cases have been booked against them under Prevention of Corruption Act, cheating and impersonation.
Based on the complaint lodged by the office staff of Mr Shivakumar, the police have arrested the duo and are questioning them to ascertain the details.
Terming the incident as condemnable, Mr Shivakumar alleged that this is was an attempt to tarnish his image. He demanded a high level enquiry into this incident and requested the authorities concerned to take necessary action.
