
Addressing mediapersons at a press conference here on Monday, he said that a total amount of Rs 23.69 lakhs had been seized in the district, since the moral code of conduct was in place. The police seized Rs 1 lakh in cash at Charmadi checkpost in Belthangady taluk, and also Rs 1.34 lakhs at Talapady checkpost in Mangalore taluk in two separate instances on Sunday. On Saturday, Rs 3.70 lakhs in cash was seized at Talapady while checking, he said.
Objectionable SMS, texts to be taken seriously
For bulk SMS or texts with objectionable or inflammatory content being circulated for publicity or negative publicity via mobile phones, which violate the provisions of the election law and model code of conduct, complaints can be filed with the police authorities. The receiver of such SMS can forward the said SMS or text, along with the number of the sender of the objectionable SMS to 9480802310. Complaints can also be mailed to [email protected], said Mr Ibrahim.
Walkie-talkies for wireless communication
He said that to facilitate wireless communication among flying squads and static surveillance team members with their base stations, 54 walkie-talkies and wireless devices have been provided to all assistant returning officers (AROs), flying squads and static surveillance teams.
Mr Ibrahim said that a total of 1945 electronic voting machines (EVMs) had been dispatched to the constituency, and two stages of randomisation were already done. Out of the 1945 EVMs, one will be provided to each of 1766 polling stations, while the remaining 179 will be kept on reserve, in case of malfunctioning or faulty voting machine, he said.
He also said that the Election Commission had prohibited any sitting Minister, MP, MLA or MLC as election agent, polling agent or counting agent of any candidate, in view of their security cover.
