Mrudul, aged 23 years, a resident of Kannur Taliparamba, Kerala, is the arrested. He is a squad member of a reputed football club at Ernakulam, and runs a canteen in Bengaluru.

The incident that occurred recently under the limits of Vidyanagar police station, here, was initially suspected to be the handiwork of professional dacoits. With the arrest of Mrudul, it has emerged to be the act of novices who took to crime to strike gold overnight. Renil from Kuthuparambha is the brain behind the heist, Mrudul is said to have told the investigators.

Mrudul has also revealed the names of another footballer Tuttu, Sayaz and Renil and he seems to be unaware of name and wherabouts of another person in the same gang that hatched the plot.

Interestingly, Prajesh also from Kuthuparamba and driver of the car in which hawala amount was being transported, is also a co-conspirator in the case.

Mrudul got his share of Rs 20 lakh after the robbery. Accordingly, the police suspect that all others, involved in the case, may have pocketed a similar share.

On August 6, Mrudul and Tuttu were playing at football grounds in Kuthuparamaba, when the latter asked former about his interest in making a windfall. Tuttu told Mrudul about hawala money being easy target, for the only reason that nobody would dare to complain to police in the event of any theft.

Prajesh was working as a driver for Khattam Vikas Dhanu, a gold merchant hailing from Maharashtra, and a resident of Thalassery. On that day, Prajesh informed suspects in the case about bringing the money in Maruti Ertiga, a multiutility vehicle from Pune in Maharashtra to Kerala. Ganesh, an assistant of Dhanu, was the only other person in the car at that time.

As planned, the suspects were waiting in a Ritz car at Talapady. As soon as the Ertiga passed through Talapady, the suspects started to follow the vehicle. After reaching a slopy road near Thekkil, the Ritz car rear hit Ertiga, only to bring both the vehicles into a sudden halt. While one of the suspects held Ganesh at gun point, others sprayed something on the face of Ganesh leaving him unconscious. They later decamped with cash.

Though the incident occurred on August 7, the complaint was lodged on August 20, owing to lack of documents. It was only after retrieving documents for Rs 2.70 crore a complaint was lodged. It was only during the course of investigation, the exact amount was tallied at Rs 5.26 crore.

Udupi: A 40-year-old NRI from Udupi has reportedly lost more than Rs 12.25 lakh in an online investment scam operated through Telegram.

According to a complaint filed at the CEN police station, Leo Jerome Mendonsa, who has been working in Dubai for the past 15 years in computer accessories sales, maintains NRI accounts in Karkala and Nitte.

On November 12, 2025, Mendonsa was added to a Telegram group called Instaflow Earnings by unknown individuals. Users identified as Priya and Dipannita persuaded him to invest in “Revenue Tasks.” Initially, Mendonsa transferred Rs 1,100 multiple times and received the promised returns, encouraging him to continue.

On November 14, another user, Nishmitha Shetty, directed him to register on a website, digitvisionuoce.cc, and invest Rs 4 lakh in various shares. Over the next few days, he made multiple transfers totaling Rs 12,25,000, including Rs 50,000 via Google Pay, believing the scheme was legitimate.

After receiving the money, the alleged handlers stopped responding, and neither the invested amount nor the promised profits were returned.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
