Mangaluru, Mar 30: Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader, who paid a visit to the house of murdered RTI activist Vinayak Baliga in the city, said that all the culprits in the case should be arrested immediately.
Baliga was hacked to death near his house in the city on March 21. Even though two supari killers have been arrested, the plotters have not been yet nabbed.
Speaking to media persons after meeting Baliga's family members, Mr Khader said that policemen investigating this murder case will be given a free hand.
Mr Khader said that the RTI activist has no history of criminal antecedents. "Congress leaders from the coastal district including district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai are keen on bringing the culprits to book. I will personally speak to home minister G Parameshwara and will ask him to take steps to expedite the investigation," he added.
Meanwhile, Rohan Shiri, a former AAP leader and RTI activist, expressed concerns that people like Baliga, who do their work silently, are targeted. "Such activists have become a soft target for the corrupt who use their power to silence them. Nowadays even RTI replies are diluted and chances are high that you may get a wrong answer from a wrong department. There are several incidents wherein they said the answers are not found and are not part of their jurisdictions," he said.
