Mangaluru, Dec 9: Even though clash-stricken areas of Mangaluru taluk are slowly returning to normalcy, ill-intended rumours of attacks are creating panic among people.
Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from various parts of the coastal taluk late on Monday night. A group of miscreants set a fish tempo on fire at Padavinangady and on the outskirts of the city causing heavy losses to its owner.
Two fresh incidents of stabbing were reported last night in taluk. A youth identified as Yogish was reportedly stabbed by two unidentified miscreants at Moodushette. Another person identified as Vinay was stabbed by miscreants at Surthakal while he was walking on the road in the night. Both were taken to hospital immediately and they are recovering, sources said.
Meanwhile, several rumours were doing the rounds through WhatsApp and social media, including reports that Bajrang Dal activists were stabbed and Hindu devotees were attacked, that police said were all rubbish.
Attempt to disrupt peace in Maripalla
WatsApp messages saying a œHindu youth was brutally stabbed by terrorists in Maripalla of Bantwal taluk were doing rounds throughout Monday.
Local news portals and television channels also reported that a man was seriously injured after he was stabbed by people belonging to another community.
The report of stabbing also shocked Bantwal Rural Police, who rushed to Maripalla and searched for the victim for several hours. Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. later confirmed that the person named in the report had no injury.
œThere was an accident in Vitla involving a bus and a motorcycle near a single-way bridge on Sunday that was followed by heated exchange of words between the bus driver and the motorist.This incident was falsely reported on social networks and mobile phones as an attack on the motorist, the SP said.
œIf people receive any such messages they should not forward it. Any such news should be reported to police, he said.
