Mangaluru, Dec 27: As part of Karavali Utsav 2014, noted theatre personality, film director and writer Sadananda Suvarna has been chosen as the recipient of the newly-instituted Karavali Honorary Award 2014, said researcher and educational expert Prof Vivek Rai, chairman of selection committee of the honorary award.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, he said that the award, which will consist of an award and citation along with a shawl, would be presented to the recipient during Beach Utsav cultural programme at Panambur beach on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the selection committee for the award consisted of Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Mahabala Marla, president of Kannada Sahitya Academy Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, heads of Beary, Tulu and Konkani academies, president of Journalists' Union Jagannath Shetty Bala, KCCI president Nigam B Vasani, award-winning teacher K K Pejawar and DK assistant deputy commissioner B Sadashiv Prabhu.
Mr Suvarna's'Ghatashraddha', directed by Girish Kasaravalli, received the prestigious Swarna Kamal award. His'Kubi Mattu Iyala' was awarded the best film by the state government.
Born in Mulky in Dakshina Kannada, Mr Suvarna has also written several Kannada plays and translated plays from other languages to Kannada. He has written dramas such as'Guddada Bhoota','Gondolu','Kurudu Kanchana' in the Tulu language. Among his popular plays are: Dharmachakra, Donkubalada Nayakaru, Suli, Nalvattara Nalugu, Urulu and Court Marshal.
