Kasargod, Feb 19: A police officer here sustained serious injuries when a sand-laden mini-truck hit him at Pallikare, near Kanhangad, late on Monday night.
M Rajesh, 42, Sub-Inspector attached to the Bekal police station, had signalled the vehicle to stop as part of a drive against sand-mining.
The vehicle was plying towards Kallingal, near Pallikare, around 11.15 p.m.
Mr Rajesh, who sustained serious head injuries, was rushed a private hospital in Kanhangad and was later shifted to a hospital in Mangalore.
The condition of the police officer remained critical.
The police have registered a case against the absconding driver of the truck under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and Kerala Protection of River Sand Act.
