Mangaluru, Apr 1: At least three persons from coastal Karnataka lost their lives and six others suffered injuries in a ghastly road mishap in northwestern region of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Friday.
The victims have been identified as Advocate Wazeer Ahmed, 31, his 8-month-old-child Nihan and former’s sister Kamarunnisa, 35. The family hails from Salmara in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
Kamarunnisa's husband Jabbar, 42, was seriously wounded and sustained multiple fractures on his legs. He is being taken to Tabuk hospital for further treatment.
Adv. Wazeer was working as Marketing Manager in a company in Jubail, the industrial city of Saudi Arabia. Before flying to Middle East, he was doing legal practice in Puttur.
The mishap took place due to a tyre burst near Hakal, 220 kms from Tabuk city. After performing Umrah in Makkah and visiting the holy city of Madeenah, the family members had planned to pay a visit to historical places near Hakal, located near Egypt border in their Fortuner car.
The impact of the tyre burst was such that the car turned upside down and completely crushed in the desert. There were nine people on board the car including Wazeer's cousin brother Shareef Nirkaje Jeddah and four children. Except Jabbar, others sustained minor injuries.
The dead bodies were kept in a hospital in Hakal. The injured were under treatment in the hospital. A few legal formalities need to be effectuated in order to dispose the bodies.
Majeed Padubidri and others from the Indian Social Forum (ISF) Tabuk unit rushed to the spot and helped the patients in the hospital and in arranging the shifting of the mortal remains.
