Bangalore, Jun 19: In a gut-wrenching incident a seven-year-old girl who was returning from school was crushed to death in front of her house at Chandra Layout in Bangalore on Wednesday.
The victim has been identified as Namitha, a resident of Thanishka Apartment on 7th cross, 3rd main, Jyothinagar. She was a Class II student of Siddaganga Public School, about half a kilometre away from her residence.
The accident took place at around 4:00 pm soon after she alighted from the bus. Namitha 's eldest sister, Tanuja (20), came out to pick her up after she heard the driver blow the horn. When her friends informed Namitha that she had forgotten her bag in the bus, she requested them to throw it out.
When they did so, her lunch box fell out of the bag and rolled close to the rear wheel of the bus. Namitha bent down to collect it. The bus driver, Fairoz, and the bus attendant did not notice Namitha, who was picking up the box from near the real wheel. He applied the reverse gear and moved the bus. Pushed by the bus, Namitha fell down and the wheel rolled over her head.
When Tanuja shouted for help, some neighbours joined her and rushed Namitha to a nearby hospital. She was declared brought dead. The police have arrested Fairoz (26).
Namitha was the youngest daughter of Narendra Babu, an architect, and Prameela, a homemaker, said the Byatarayanapura traffic police.
