Kasaragod, Dec 23: In a shocking incident, a young activist of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) was brutally hacked to death by a gang of miscreants in Kasaragod.
Zainul Abid (24), who was attacked with sharp weapons at his shop in Chakkar Bazaar, Kasaragod, on Monday night, breathed his last at a hospital in Mangaluru.
Zainul Abid tried to escape and shouted for help before collapsing in a pool of blood. The assailants fled the spot before others reach there.
The shopkeepers nearby rushed to the spot only to witness critically injured youth lying in a pool of blood.
He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Kasaragod and then shifted another hospital in Mangaluru as per doctors' advice. However, Zainaul Abid breathed his last in the wee hours of Tuesday, source said. The body was then shifted to hospital in Kerala.

Enraged over the brutal murder, the local unit of SDPI has given a Kasaragod Taluk bandh call on Tuesday. The dawn-to-dusk hartal call has evoked mixed response in some SDPI dominant areas of Kasaragod.
Expressing confidence to nab the culprits, Kasaragod police have urged the people to maintain in the region. A manhunt has already begun, they said.
Following the incident, additional police forces have been deployed at the sensitive areas in the town to prevent untoward incidents.
