Kasaragod, Dec 24: Hundreds of people from across Kerala and Dakshina Kannada took part in the funeral procession of Social Democratic Party of India activist Zainul Abid, who was hacked to death by alleged Sangh Parivar activist in Kasaragod on Monday night.
Normal life was thrown out of gear in Kasaragod taluk on Tuesday due to the dawn-to-dusk Hartal called by the SDPI demanding the arrest of the miscreants who brutally murdered the youth.
A protest rally was also organized by the local unit of SDPI. Addressing the protesters, SDPI Kasaragod district president N Abdussalam said that the murder of Zainul Abid was a pre-planned conspiracy of Sangh Parivar.
Meanwhile, local residents have expressed suspicion over the non-functioning of CCTV cameras installed near the place of murder. According to sources, the CCTV camera was not working for last couple of days. It is suspected that the miscreants had made the CCTV cameras non-functional before executing the crime.
Zainul Abid (24), a resident of Thalangara locality in the town, was stabbed in front of his father K A Muhammed Kunhi, as the duo were getting ready to close down their shop, near the Indian Union Muslim League district office at M.G. Road here around 9.30 p.m. on Monday.
Based on the complaint of victim's father, Kasaragod town police have registered cases against five people. According to the complainant there were five members in the gang. Four them barged into the shop and attacked Abid with sharp weapons. Meanwhile, police have recovered knife used by the miscreants to kill the youth.
