Bengaluru, Apr 7: A delegation of Social Democratic Party of India from Dakshina Kannada district on Friday called on chief minister Siddaramiah in his residence in Bengaluru and demanded his intervention in recent case of alleged police atrocity on a Muslim youth and subsequent brutal crackdown on protest in Mangaluru.

Led by Haneef Khan Kodaje, DK district president of SDPI, the delegation comprised of Afsar Kodlipete, Amjan Khan and Iqbal IMR, the three office bearers of the party.
The demands of the SDPI delegation are as follows:
1) Stringent action against the police officers of Mangaluru City Crime Branch, who allegedly inhumanly tortured Ahmed Qureshi, a resident of Katipalla in the custody and forced him to give a false statement before the magistrate that he was injured in a road accident.
2) Withdrawal of the cases slapped against the protesters, who had gathered in front of the office of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner on Tuesday to condemn the alleged police atrocity.
3) State government should bear the complete medical expenses of the victim of the police atrocity and also provide him compensation.
In a release issued here, Iqbal Bellare, Secretary, DK district unit of the SDPI, said that SDPI delegates discussed the entire episode of the police torture with the CM for one hour and also showed him the video clippings of police caning peaceful protesters. The CM assured the delegation to consider their demands and take necessary action against the guilty.
