Mangaluru, Jun 9: Mohammed Farooq is an auto rickshaw driver with a twist. Running his auto rickshaw in rural areas surrounding Uppinangady town in Puttur taluk, he provides free service up to five kilometres for pregnant women to get to the nearest hospital.
As social service, he has posted a placard behind his auto rickshaw advertising to take pregnant women to the nearest hospital free of cost for up to five kilometres.
Farooq is the son of Adam and Khateeja, and is a resident of Bedrodi in Bajathoor village near Uppinangady. He had served as the former secretary of Sneha Sangama Autorickshaw Owners Union in Uppinangady and is the current secretary of Bedrodi masjid management committee.
Due to this gesture of goodwill, he has earned the praise of several locals and auto rickshaw owners. Farooq also provides his auto rickshaw for men in poor families to earn a living and offers to take pregnant women to the nearest hospital free of cost, as part of his social service.
In addition to his, he has also advertised behind his auto rickshaw offering to donate blood to patients in the hospital when needed. Being of O Positive blood group, a team of five friends including Farooq, have offered to donate blood when required during emergencies in hospital.
By this kind of service, Farooq has emerged as a role model to fellow citizens to render service to the society in any way possible.
