Mangaluru, Mar 22: At least seven persons including a child critically injured in a serial mishap involving three vehicles on National Highway 75 at Kalladka in Bantwal taluk on Sunday.
The collision between a Maruti Omni, an auto-rickshaw and a motorbike led to traffic jam on highway for some time.
Six injured were immediately rushed to different hospitals in Mangaluru. Among them the condition of three persons including a child is said to be critical.
It is learnt that a family from Shaktinagar in Mangaluru was returning home after participating in a programme in Puttur.
The driver lost control over his Omni and collided with an oncoming rickshaw belonging Ashraf, a resident of Bolanthoor. It is said that both were over speed.
The impact of the collision was such that Omni was toppled on the road and auto-rickshaw automatically took a U-turn. Meanwhile, the Omni also knocked down a motorbike plying behind the ill-fated auto-rickshaw.
All three vehicles were damaged in the incident. Three persons on board Omni sustained injuries. The auto-rickshaw driver was also hospitalized with severe injuries. A Kasaragodu-based man who was riding the motorbike escaped with minor injuries. However, his wife and five-year-old kid, who were riding pillion sustained critical injuries.
A case has been registered at Bantwal Town Police Station.
