Kasaragod, Nov 4: Sporadic incidents of violence were reported in and around Kanhangad in Kasaragod district after the polling for elections to the local bodies.

The hartal in the hilly pocket partially hit normal life as public transport vehicles kept off the road till 12 noon. Three persons sustained serious injuries in clashes involving CPI(M) and BJP workers in the Left stronghold of Kanhirapoyil in Madikai grama panchayat, near Kanhangad.
CPI(M) worker Prabhijith, 24, and BJP loyalist Biju, 30, were shifted to a Mangaluru hospital while two other CPI(M) workers are undergoing treatment in a hospital at Neeleswaram.
A group of people, allegedly IUML workers, attacked houses and the party office of the Indian National League (INL) at Kooliyangal in Kanhangad shortly after polling. The miscreants hurled glass bottles at houses, damaged furniture and destroyed the tiled roof of the office building. In another incident, a group of miscreants set fire to the Congress office at Bellikkoth, near Kanhangad. The incident took place around 10 p.m.
Bismi Ibrahim, LDF Independent candidate, who was in the fray in ward no. 2 of Kanhangad municipality, suffered head injuries in an attack, allegedly by IUML workers.
