Mangaluru, Apr 16: A month after a three-and-a-half-year-old nursery student studying in Mangalore One School in Thokkottu near here was sexually abused by a school van driver before dropping her home, parents of a few other students from the same school also have decided to withdraw their children from the school.

Distressed by the lack of response and action by the school management committee when the sexual abuse of the girl came to light, parents of several children studying in the school have come forward to withdraw their children and get them transferred from Mangalore One School, said one of the parents.
Soon after the sexual abuse came to light, the school and its management committee reportedly made attempts to cover up the incident while also alleging that the crime had been falsely reported. Since the school committee had failed to give any assurances with regard to the safety of other students studying in the school following the incident, the group of parents wish to obtain transfer of their children.
Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, Hammabba, one of the parents, confirmed that he wished to withdraw his child from Mangalore One School. Parents of other students too, want to withdraw their children from the school, he said.
In the memorandum, few parents have also expressed their dissatisfaction over the school management committee sending them pamphlets wrongly informing that the parents of the girl who had been sexually abused, had withdrawn the case against the school.
