Udupi, Jul 19: Hours after the suspicious death of Shiroor Mutt chief pontiff Sri Lakshmivara Teertha swamiji, his advocate has revealed that the former had expressed fears to his life has he had decided to go against other seers of the Ashta Mutt (eight mutts).
Speaking to news channel advocate Ravikiran Murdeshwar said that nearly a month ago the seer had visited former’s office and had expressed threat to his live over his decision to expose various wrongdoings in the Udupi Mutt.
"On June 22 he discussed issue with me in detail for over two hours. Later, we had filed caveat at Udupi Court”, he recalled.
The seer had claimed that he was being forced to face disputes created by the Ashta Mutt seers. The caveat filed in the Senior Civil Judge and Civil Judge Courts also stated since he expected them (Seers) to file the case against the Shiroor Mutt, he wanted the court not to pass any interim exparte order.
The advocate demanded a probe into the mysterious death of the seer. “Now it’s not difficult to find out the truth. When scientific tools are available, they should be used to clear doubts regarding the seer’s death," he added.
He said: “Just yesterday, I had papers readied for filing criminal case against the Astha Mutt seers, barring Puthige Mutt, regarding non-handing over of Shiroor Mutt’s deities including the statue of presiding deity Vittal, which he had handed over to the Mutt for safekeeping during his illness. Apart from this, he also expressed threat to his life," he said.
