Chikkamagaluru, Nov 22: Followers of Sringeri Mutt staged a protest here, condemning the derogatory remarks against their seer on the Facebook. Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including Lok Sabha Member Shobha Karandlaje participated in the protest.

The protesters also urged the State government to treat the case with all seriousness and initiate action against the guilty under the Goonda Act.
Ms. Karnadlaje said: “The accused has been caught. The government should take stern action against him.”
Complaints have been filed in Sringeri and Mudigere police stations against one Munna Azar, who allegedly published defamatory comments on a social networking site against the senior and junior seers of the mutt, after uploading their pictures.
Protest in Sringeri
The devotees and the members of pro-Hindu organisations gathered in front of Sringeri police station on Friday and sought the arrest of the accused. VHP district unit joint secretary Harish V Shetty said the publishing of the defamatory content is an attempt to insult the mutt.
A memorandum was submitted to Circle Inspector Sudhir Hegde seeking stern action against the accused. The mutt staffers, led by senior officer Sripada Rao and taluk Muslim organisations too, submitted memorandums to Hegde.
SP Santhosh Babu said Azar, who is acussed of publishing the defamatory content against the seers on a social networking, has been arrested in Dharwad. He will be brought to Chikkamagaluru for further investigations, he said.
