Mngaluru, Apr 4: Dismissing the claim of Mangaluru city police that the activists of Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India pelted stones and attacked cops as “a shameless lie”, SDPI Dakshina Kannada president Haneef Khan Kodaje said alleged that the police deliberately unleashed violence against the “peaceful” protesters.
Speaking to media persons at SDPI office in the city, Mr Kodaje dared the police to come up with video proof of protesters pelting stones at government offices or attacking cops.
“CCTV cameras have been installed across the office of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner. Besides, there were many cameramen covering the protest. Let the police carefully check all the footages and show us if they find any proof to support the allegations made against the protesters,” he challenged.
Mr Kodaje went on to claim that Mangaluru City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar has made false allegations against the protesters with the intention of protecting the cops who brutally tortured a youth from Katipalla in the custody. Moreover, levelling false charges against protesters will help the police to arrest them and curb the agitation, he added.
He said that during the lathi-charge around 65 activists, who were protesting in front of the office of city police commissioner on Tuesday, suffered injuries and five among them are in a serious condition.
