Udupi, Jul 19: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah led Karnataka government is giving priority to food security in the State, according to Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader.

Mr. Fernandes said that the Anna Bhagya scheme was launched by Mr. Siddaramaiah so that all the poor people had access to free rice. The intention was to see that no one went hungry in the State.
Women played a vital role in the development of the economy. The savings rate in the country was 30 per cent and the credit for it should go to the women.
“I am happy that over 51 per cent of Congress-backed candidates who have won in the gram panchayat polls in Udupi district are women,” Mr. Fernandes said.
Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, said it was essential that they maintained contact with the people.
