Mysuru, Sep 23: Lashing out at RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks for a “relook on reservation policy”, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said it was a conspiracy to deprive the socially backward of opportunities to improve their status.
“The architect of the Constitution B.R. Ambedkar had himself remarked that so long as there was caste and casteism in the country, there will be reservation,” said Mr. Siddaramaiah. Those who oppose social justice do not believe in reservation, he said.
Mr. Siddaramaiah ruled out the possibility of releasing water as per the final orders of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in view of the “worst drought in 40 years” plaguing Karnataka.
The Chief Minister said the water being released (against which there were protests by farmers) was not as per the final order, which stipulates that the State release 192 tmcft but as per the distress sharing formula.
“A meeting has been convened by the Centre on September 28 and the Chief Secretary of the State will attend and present the scenario in the State,” he said.
