Mangalore, Oct 12: Karnataka Urban Development department should take necessary measures to bring Moodushedde village that includes Pilikula Nisargadhama into the folds of Mangalore City Corporation, said MLC Ivan D'Souza.
Speaking after accepting felicitation offered to him by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mangalore, in the city on Saturday, he lamented that the population as the criteria is causing a blockade in the process of including Mangalore in the Central government's Smart City project.
œWe had submitted a representation two years ago to the State government requesting to include Moodushedde to MCC, but no initiative has been taken so far. And now they say that MCC lacks the population to be selected for Smart City project, he said.
Center-State coordination must in MCF issue
Speaking on Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd, he said the lack of coordination between Centre and the State is a major hurdle to resolve the issue of closing down MCF.
He suggested that the KCCI should directly intervene and exert pressure on both the governments to consider the issue seriously.
œKeeping aside all differences, we must work together and ensure that the MCF is not closed down at any cost, Mr D'Souza said adding that union ministers from Karnataka should play a major role in this regard.
He said: œOn behalf of the MCF, we have urged the chief minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar and Union Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda exert pressure on the prime minister of India to resolve the issue by ensuring the supply of subsidies Naphtha till the gas pipeline connectivity is obtained.
Stating that the state government is keen on resolving the issue, he said Mr Siddaramaiah would meet Narendra Modi to discuss the issue.
KCCI President Nigam Vasani submitted a representation to the MLC on the occasion, with a list of demands including to help MCF to produce urea, start the functioning of EPIP, promote tourism by promoting Mangalore Dasara, introduce high speed rail link from Konaje to Manipal, declare a uniform holiday policy etc.
