Puttur, Nov 1: In an unfortunate incident, seven persons including a Kadaba police constable, a student and three women suffered injuries when they were allegedly bit by a rabid dog near Hegde Arcade close to Puttur town police station in the weekend.
All the seven injured were provided primary treatment in Puttur government hospital and given anti-rabies injections.
The rabid dog was reportedly seen wandering near Hegde Arcade on Saturday morning and bit pedestrians walking nearby. According to eye witnesses, the rabid dog also bit other stray dogs in the vicinity.
Eventually, the rabid dog was beaten to death by the locals using rods.
On receiving news about the rabid dog at the hospital, Puttur town municipality member Shakti Sinha expressed objection that the suspected dog was killed without confirming whether it was rabid or not.
