It is learnt that a group of cattle-protectors ' waylaid the Eicher lorry in which the trio were secretly transporting 10 cows and two calves from a Goshala in Kollur to Kerala on Wednesday night.
The traffickers claimed that they were transporting the animals to another Goshala in Palakkad, Kerala. However, the mob suspected that they were transporting the cattle to a slaughterhouse in Kerala.
Unconfirmed sources said that the transporters had managed to obtain a permission letter from Kollur police station with the help of a Tapovarishtrashrama of Kollur to transport the cattle.
Sources said that initially four persons on two motorbikes waylaid the lorry at Koteshwara and began to inquire the trio. Within a few minutes around three dozens of people came to the spot and began to assault the transporters.
