Puttur, Aug 10: A day after Shiradi Ghat road stretch was thrown open to traffic it witnessed a fatal accident near Addahole village of Puttur taluk.

Two women were killed on spot and three others suffered severe injuries when a speeding tanker rammed into a jeep on Monday.
The mishap occurred when the driver of the tanker plying from Bengaluru to Mangaluru lost control over his vehicle and rammed into an oncoming jeep. The accident spot was at a little distance from the newly concretized road stretch.
Rukmini (35), wife of Vishwanath and Bhavani (40), wife of Guddappa succumbed to the injuries within a couple minutes after the mishap.
Jeep driver, identified as Chandrashekhar, and two other passengers on board the jeep including a nun have been hospitalized after the unfortunate incident.
A case has been registered at jurisdictional Puttur traffic police station and investigations are on. More details are awaited.
