Gang-raped
Bangalore, Aug 12: A 19-year-old girl has made a complaint to the police that her close friend and his four associates abducted her in an auto-rickshaw before raping her one by one at an under-construction building at Shampur in K G Halli on Saturday night. Police have detained three men but said the girl's claims were being verified.

The girl, a native of Chennai and resident of Benson Town, claimed in her complaint to the police on Sunday evening that the men “forcibly took her in an auto-rickshaw”. She is a PUC dropout and had recently come to Bangalore. She happened to meet a young man, Prabhu, and the two became friends. The relationship later blossomed into an affair, the police said, quoting the girl's complaint.

On Saturday night, Prabhu called her up, requesting her to meet him near the KG Halli railway gate as he wanted to take her out to dinner at a plush restaurant.

Around 9 pm, the unsuspecting girl rode her two-wheeler to that place where Prabhu and his friend were waiting in an auto-rickshaw. He requested her to get into the auto, but she hesitated a bit. But the group forced her in and the auto-rickshaw pulled away. The group got down at an old building where it partied. The men made her drink alcohol and smoke marijuana, the girl said in her complaint.

According to the girl, she had initially refused to smoke marijuana but the men managed to persuade her, saying the substance was not cigarette and that she would “feel relaxed” once she inhaled it. But once she smoked the substance, she plunged into a semi-conscious state, she told the police.

Once she was heavily drunk and had smoked marijuana, Prabhu raped her before his friends took turns to do the same. Hours later, the men took her in auto-rickshaw and dropped her off at her house, the police said.

The next morning, the police went on, she overslept until her worried parents woke her up. She told them that she was not feeling ill and needed rest. But they grew suspicious and took her to a hospital where doctors examined her and revealed that she had been sexually assaulted, the police added.

Later in the evening, the girl and her parents went to the JC Nagar police station and made a complaint. Based on her account, the police detained three men — identified only as Vicky, Deepu and Karthik. The girl was again subjected to medical examination to ascertain whether she was gang-raped.

“Based on her complaint, we have detained three men but they are yet to be arrested. We are verifying the girl's claims as well as those of the three,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order-East) S Ravi told Deccan Herald.

Prabhu and his another friend, Konga, are said to be absconding. The five are said to be either car drivers or hotel workers. On the girl's claim that she was forcibly taken into an auto-rickshaw, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar said: “We are investigating whether the five abducted her in an auto-rickshaw to the building where the rape took place or she went with them voluntarily.”

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.

Mangaluru, Dec 3: A group of Congress workers gathered at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday to welcome AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, but the reception quickly turned into a display of support for Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Venugopal arrived in the city to participate in the centenary commemoration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Narayana Guru. The event, organised by the Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala, in association with the Mangalore University Sri Narayana Guru Study Chair, is being held on the university’s Konaje campus.

KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai and several party workers had assembled at the airport to receive Venugopal. However, the moment he stepped out, workers began raising slogans backing Shivakumar.

The university programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

This show of support comes just a day after Siddaramaiah remarked that Shivakumar would lead the government “when the high command decides.” The chief minister made the comment after a breakfast meeting at Shivakumar’s residence—another public display of camaraderie between the two leaders amid ongoing attempts by the party high command to downplay their leadership rivalry.
