Mangaluru, Feb 1: A road accident in Kalladka led to a clash between two communities in Kalladka, 30 km away from Mangaluru, on Monday.
According to Bantwal police, two-way traffic movement was allowed on one lane as the other lane of the two-lane road in Kalladka was being asphalted.
This had resulted in slow movement of traffic on the road. Around 7 p.m. a pick-up van hit an autorickshaw. This led to a heated exchange of words and also blows between the occupants of the two vehicles.
After the two groups dispersed, a few persons threw stones and glass bottles on the road to express their anger over the clash. Shops and business establishments downed their shutters in the area. Senior police officers went to the spot with additional policemen to bring the situation under control.
Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said that they were looking into the chain of events leading to the clash. He said that they are on the look-out for those involved in the trouble and the subsequent stone-throwing incident.
