Kasargod, Dec 10: A Sessions Court here on Monday awarded life sentence to the first accused in the Thalankara murder case.
The court awarded first accused to life imprisonment, ten-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for three and seven-year RI to another in the sensational Thalankara murder case in northern-most Kasargod district in Kerala 15 years ago.
Judge M J Shaktidaran awarded lifer to first accused Dodahanuma (45) from Bangalore Bandupalayam after finding him guilty of killing P S Bifathima (58) and her maid Selvi (16) at Thalankara, Kannur on February 23, 1998.
The second, third and fourth accused Puthukkoli Venkitesh (45), Muni Krishna (43), Nalla Thimma (43), respectively were awarded 10-year RI and 7-year to fifth accused and Dodahanuma's wife Lakshmi (45).
Sixth to 9th accused Krishnadu (35), Padma (43) and Savithri (37) were acquitted by the Judge on December 7 as prosecution had failed to prove charges against them.
These hardcore criminals were also involved in 84 other crimes, including 44 murders, in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka from 1996 to 2001.
