Mangaluru, Aug 6: Two young women have been arrested by the police in Managluru on charge of multiple counts of theft and recovered gold jewellery and cash worth Rs 4.09 lakh from them.

The arrested have been identified as Selvi (24) wife of Aiyappan and Arayi (22) daughter of Muthu, both residents of Mettupalyam in Tamil Nadu.
According to police, the two were adept at diverting attention of their victims, mostly women and stealing gold jewellery from their person or cash kept in their vanity bags.
K M Shantharaju, deputy commissioner of police (law and order) told media persons on Saturday that the accused had struck at four different places across the city since July 25.
While they had taken a gold chain weighing 24 grams from Malathi while boarding a city bus route number 4E at Mangaladevi on July 25, the duo had taken Rs 1.58 lakh cash from the vanity bag of Leelavathi who was travelling in bus route 6D from Mangaladevi on July 29.
They then had taken 40 grams of gold jewellery from Gunavanthi who was walking down the main road at Sutterpete on August 1. Their last heist was on August 5 when they targeted Parameshwari who was waiting for a bus at Kankanady bus station.
Shantharaju said the duo were experts at diverting attention of women, especially while travelling in a bus and showing the sleight of their hands. They would commute in crowded buses posing as normal passengers.
Personnel of Mangaluru south police station headed by police inspector K U arrested the duo on Saturday near Roopavani talkie in the city.
