Mangaluru, Jan 1: Thieves broke into a house located in Kapikad near Thokottu in Ullal police station limits in the wee hours of Wednesday and made away with cash and gold weighing 15 sovereigns.
The house which was robbed in Kapikad belonged to Madhava Poojary. The theft was discovered on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the thieves entered the house through the ventilator in the rear bathroom. Breaking the rod, the thieves entered the three-bedroom house and broke open the wardrobes in each bedroom to search for valuables. They are said to have made away with Rs 25,000 and gold valuables weighing 15 sovereigns.
It is learnt that Madhava Poojary resided abroad in Sharjah in UAE along with his family, while the house in Kapikad was occupied by his mother Vedavathi and brother Dinesh's wife Deeksha.
Just five months earlier, Dinesh had left for Dubai on work while his wife Deeksha was scheduled to leave for Dubai on January 1. On Tuesday, Vedavathi, along with Deeksha, had left home to visit her son Naveen living in Vamanjoor and halted for the night. It is suspected that the thieves had been aware of this detail.
When the neighbours found one of the doors of the house wide open, they informed a relative of Madhava Poojary in Thokkottu who arrived and discovered the theft.
Ullal police arrived at the house along with the dog squad and conducted investigation led by DCP (Crime & Traffic) Vishnuvardhana. Fingerprint experts were also summoned.
