Three including minor arrested in assault, chain snatching case

Mangaluru, Dec 22: Pandeshwar police have arrested three accused including a minor in connection with extorting a mobile phone and gold chain from Nagesh D at Bal Bhavan Park near the service bus in the city stand last Thursday.

The arrested are Ganesh Poojary alias Ganesh (29) from Nelacchil site in Kulavoor village in Kuppepadavu, Sheikh Mohammed Farhan alias Farhan (16) from Kolya Bypass and Mohammed Ashraf (30) from Kerebail in Ullal.

The police have seized a mobile phone, a gold chain and some cash from the accused.

According to a complaint lodged by reporter Nagesh D at Pandeshwar police station, he had been sitting on a bench in the said park last Thursday when two unknown persons approached him, verbally abused him and demanded his Samsung mobile phone. When he refused, the two assaulted him, snatched his mobile phone and pulled his gold chain weighing 8 grams worth Rs 20,000 and fled the scene.

Nagesh, who was injured in the assault, received treatment in the district Wenlock Hospital.

On Saturday, based on a tip-off, Pandeshwar police station inspector Dinakar Shetty and other personnel took custody of Ganesh Poojary and Mohammed Farhan on the footpath adjacent to Nehru Maidan.

After intense questioning, the two accused confessed to the crime. During questioning, it was also revealed that they had sold the mobile phone and gold chain at lower prices to a certain Mohammed Ashraf from Ullal. Based on this information, the police also arrested Ashraf on Saturday.

The three accused were produced before court and remanded to judicial custody.

Accused Ganesh Poojary had served a sentence in a theft case in Kadri police station limits. He is also an accused in connection with the theft case of ballot boxes from the deputy commissioner's office premises.

The police also informed that accused Mohammed Ashraf is an accused in a case regarding communal clashes in Ullal police station limits.

Ganesh Poojary and Mohammed Ashraf are kept in Mangalore Prison while minor Mohammed Farhan was sent to a remand home in Shivamogga.

Hassan MP and Lok Sabha election candidate of the BJP-JD(S) alliance Prajwal Revanna, who is facing an inquiry over the alleged sexual abuse of several women, said the truth will prevail.

The MP, who left the country as soon as the election to his constituency ended, has also sought seven days' time to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Karnataka government to inquire into the huge cache of about 3,000 explicit videos and photos allegedly pertaining to him, which have gone viral on social media.

“As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to CID Bangalore through my advocate. Truth will prevail soon,” Prajwal, grandson of former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda, said in a post on X.

A case has been registered against MLA and former minister H D Revanna and his son Prajwal at Holenarasipura on a complaint lodged by their former cook and relative for allegedly sexually harassing her.

She also alleged that Prajwal made video calls to her daughter and spoke in an objectionable manner, which forced her to block him.

The MP who is seeking re-election from Hassan on a JD(S) ticket, shared a letter by his lawyer Arun G to the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the SIT, in which he has sought seven days' time to appear before the official because he is abroad.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru North police have apprehended a minor in connection with alleged voyeurism incident reported in a private medical college in Mangaluru. 

DCP (Law and order) Sidharth Goyal said that the minor was produced before JJ Board as per due procedure. The incident came to light when a mobile phone was found in women's washroom in the college. 

The mobile-phone was discovered as it was ringing even when no one was in the toilet by the security guard of the college. 

Investigations revealed that the mobile phone had been strategically placed in the restroom. As a result, a case has been registered under north police station.

Further scrutiny into the matter uncovered the identity of the accused, a minor male aged 17, who had gained access to the college premises under the guise of being a patient. Following his apprehension, the accused was presented before the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board in adherence to legal protocols.

The phone has been seized and a case has been booked under IPC section 354 (C), said the DCP.

Mangaluru, June 10: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another prime accused in 2022 BJP Yuva Morcha worker Praveen Nettaru murder case. 

32-year-old Jilla BJP Yuva Morcha committee member Nettaru was hacked to death in front of his broiler shop in Bellare of Dakshina Kannada by bike-borne miscreants in July 2022. The case is being investigated by the NIA and several arrests have been made so far.

Mustafa Paichar, accused number four in the case, was absconding after the murder and the NIA had declared a Rs 5 lakh reward to catch him. 

He was arrested at Sakleshpur in Hassan district by the NIA team led by Inspector Shanmugam. 

According to officials Mustafa was reportedly a member of now banned Popular Front of India and a resident of Shantinagar in Sullia in Dakshina Kannada.
