Mangalore/Udupi, Mar 6: Three persons died in separate accidents in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Wednesday.
In first accident, Vishwas Naik (17) and his classmate Kaushik, both residents of Gutthedhar village, studying in Second PUC of Subramanya Junior College, were headed towards their college to collect their hall tickets when a speeding pick-up coming from the opposite direction crashed into them, said the Subramanya Police.
While Vishwas died on the spot, Kaushik was admitted to a private hospital in Puttur with severe injuries. Police have booked the driver of the truck Saiju. They are yet to arrest him.
The accident occurred at around 9.30 a.m.
Later, around 1 p.m., Bukhari (18), who was travelling on his motorcycle from his house in Kallada towards Mani, was killed when a speeding mini van rammed into him on National Highway 75 at Kalladka market.
Bukhari suffered serious injuries, and died on the way to the hospital. Bantwal Town Police said the van sped away after the accident, and no one on the road jotted down the number of the van.
A person was killed on the spot in a motorcycle-truck collision near Kallianpur Bridge on National Highway 66 here on Wednesday.
Udupi Traffic Police said Prashanth Nayak (31), a resident of Harikhandige-Bellarpady, was riding his motorcycle from Kallianpur-Santhekatte to K.G. Road, while the truck was coming from the opposite direction from Kundapur to Mangalore, when the collision took place.
Prashanth, who suffered severe injuries, died on the spot. A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
