Mangaluru, Nov 18: A team of police intercepted a vehicle, which was illegally transporting cattle near Belthangady on the outskirts of the city and detained three miscreants.

The detained cattle traffickers have been identified as Kumara, Paramesha and P Krishna, hailing from Tarikere in Chikkamagaluru district. It is learnt that they were Bajrang Dal activists.
Police sources said that the miscreants were transporting cattle to a slaughterhouse in Kerala.
In order to mislead police the miscreants used a mini lorry named ‘Sri Manjunatha Swami Prasanna’ for illegal transportation.
When the sleuths from Punjalkatte police station near Belthangady stopped the vehicles for checking, the trio reportedly told the cops that they were transporting vessels to a temple.
However, the police found six buffaloes and a cow tied inside the vehicle. The police immediately seized the vehicle along with the cattle and took the trio into custody.
The arrests were made by a team led by ASI Giriyappa comprised of constables Ibrahim, Venkappa, Devappa, Mahesh and Mohan under the guidance of SI Latheesh Kumar. The accused were produced before a court in Bantwal.
