He said Mangaluru Dardshana would be brought out in three volumes with each of 500 pages.
Writer and chief editor of the book B.A. Vivek Rai said that the compendium was unique as it not only had the history of the city dating back to ancient times but also recounts what the city was for 212 70-year-old persons in the form of their interviews.
The book also has a recollection of the Netravathi came near the city. There was also information about the old Yakshagana troupes functioning in the city. “Whatever we are stating in the book is truly authentic,” said Mr. Rai.
Mr. Rai said the work, which started a year ago, has led him to rediscover the city. “It was during the ground work that I have got to know a lot of facts about the city and its places,” he said. Mr. Rai, former Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University, said they had to limit their work because of the deadline. “The work will never be complete and there will still be gaps,” Mr. Rai added.
