The arrested have been identified as Manesh A.P. (33) from Kodungalloor, P.K. Kabeer(52) of Chavakkad who was living at Angamaly, Sudharman(57) of Vellayambalam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Anil Kumar V form Vattappara.

They allegedly conspired with other accused Lissy Sojan, Sethulal, and Suresh K.V. to trick women from poor backgrounds into going to the Gulf and forcing them to work in brothels there.

Manesh was allegedly an accomplice of Lissy Sojan and others in running the brothels in Ajman and other places. He allegedly received customers, collected money from them, and helped confine the women. He was first detained by the Ajman police in an operation launched to rescue some of the trafficked women from the brothel.

Anil Kumar was allegedly an agent for Suresh, suspected to be the kingpin of the racket. The CBI said that he recruited women to the brothels and facilitated their transport. Kabeer allegedly assisted Anil Kumar in running the brothels.

Sudharman, who was living in a rented flat near the airport at Nedumbassery, allegedly assisted the trafficking operation.

A CBI report said that he had raped a woman who had fallen into the racket at his flat before sending her abroad.

The accused were summoned to the CBI office by the Thiruvananthapuram unit of the agency, who are investigating the case.

They were produced before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday. The court granted the CBI custody of the accused till Monday after the agency submitted that it wished to question the accused for vital information regarding the role of other accused.

The case related to the incident in which a woman from Kattappana was trafficked to Ajman after she was promised a job as a maid in Dubai.

The other accused in the case are Bindu, Lissy Sojan, Sethulal, Siraj, Suresh K.V., T.A. Rafeeque, and M. Ramesh.

Mangaluru: In a decisive move to tackle the city’s deteriorating sanitation infrastructure, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced a massive ₹1,200 crore action plan to overhaul its underground drainage (UGD) network.

The initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV, aims to bridge "missing links" in the current system that have left residents grappling with overflowing sewage and environmental hazards.

The Breaking Point

The announcement follows a high-intensity phone-in session on Thursday, where the DC was flooded with grievances from frustrated citizens. Residents, including Savithri from Yekkur, described a harrowing reality: raw sewage from apartments leaking into stormwater drains, creating a "permanent stink" and turning residential zones into mosquito breeding grounds.

"We are facing immense difficulties due to the stench and the health risks. Local officials have remained silent until now," one resident reported during the session.

The Strategy: A Six-Year Vision

DC Darshan HV confirmed that the proposed plan is not a temporary patch but a comprehensive six-year roadmap designed to accommodate Mangaluru’s projected population growth. Key highlights of the plan include:

•    Infrastructure Expansion: Laying additional pipelines to connect older neighborhoods to the main grid.

•    STP Crackdown: Stricter enforcement of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) regulations. While new apartments are required to have functional STPs, many older buildings lack them entirely, and several newer units are reportedly non-functional.

•    Budgetary Push: The plan has already been discussed with the district in-charge minister and the Secretary of the Urban Development Department. It is slated for formal presentation in the upcoming state budget.
