
Mangalore, Oct 22: The police personnel dedicate their lives to protect citizens of our nation, so their service should always be remembered and respected, said IGP (western range) Prathap Reddy.
Speaking on Martyrs' Day organised by the district police department here on Monday, he said it was known that police personnel face severe pressure while performing their duties, at such times they should judge what is right and take decision in the interests of the people.
Mangalore City Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar remembered the sacrifice of police who died while in the service.
He said as many as 527 police personnel died while discharging duties in the country, including 19 in the State, he said. Among them T N Shivarajappa from Mangalorean and Baskar Kulal of Udupi lost their lives, he informed.
Senior police officers and others placed wreaths at the martyrs' memorial.
