Mangaluru, Dec 28: A truck terminal being the need of the hour for parking trucks and lorries in Mangaluru, D Devaraj Urs Truck Terminals Limited has come forward to construct a truck terminal for which all necessary arrangements will be made by the company within the next six months.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, president of the company S N Prakasham said that there was no availability of government land in Mangaluru to set up a truck terminal. In this regard, there are talks of availing the ownership of private properties to build a terminal and all necessary arrangements will be made within a period of six months, he informed.
He said that truck terminals had already been set up in places such as Bengaluru, Mysuru and Dharwad and proposals had been submitted before the respective deputy commissioners to allot government land to build similar terminals in districts like Bijapura, Chikmagalur, Gadag, Hassan, Bidar and Uttar Kannada. Projects will be taken up on the basis of availability of land and grants from the government, he said.
Basic facilities
There are several lorry and truck drivers in the state who are cheated of basic facilities. In order to provide such drivers with basic facilities, a decision has been taken in the management board meeting to submit a report to the state government in this regard, he said.
