
Belthangady, Mar 10: In a tragic incident, two high-school students drwoned in a river on Sunday at Kalmanja in Belthangady.
The victims identified as Adithya and Sooraj, both class IX students of Anugraha English Medium School in Belthangady ventured into Nidigal river for fishing.
It's learnt that the students failed to gauge the depth of the water and could not come out. They drowned while trying to save each other after they slipped into the water, sources said.
Local divers recovered the bodies, which were sent for post mortem.
SI Prakash Devadiga, ASI Kalaimar, Dakshina Kannada ZP president Koragappa Naika, Ujire gram panchayat President Balakrishna Gowda, Kalmanja gram panchayat President Santhappa Gowda, staff of Anugraha English Medium school and others rushed to the spot after hearing news.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at Belthangady police station. Police are investigating.
