Kasargod, Dec 10: Two youth, said to be Sangh Parivar activists, from Mysuru district have been arrested in Kerala while transporting explosives in a vehicle towards Kannur city.
The excise personnel posted at Kiliyathara chek post near Iritty in Kannur district thwarted the attempt of smuggling the explosives in a pickup truck to the destination on Monday and handed over the duo to police.
According to sources the officials seized 100 kg of ammonium nitrate, 600 nitrate mixers, and 1,500 detonators that were concealed under gunny bags containing onions in the vehicle.
The police have not ruled out the possibilities of a conspiracy by anti-social elements to carry out a terror attack in the region using these explosives. They said that the vehicle was moving towards Kannur city.
However, during the primary interrogation, the arrested youth told police that the explosives did not belong to them and they were asked to transport the goods to Iritty. Further investigations are on.
