Mangalore, Jun 23: Students of Government Higher Primary School, Mannagudda will have a vast and enjoyable learning experience hereafter. Equipped with a audio-visual media room, the children can now learn their curriculum in a fully air-conditioned room with a projector, screen accompanied with in-built audio, computer and cordless microphone.
An idea of Mangalore Coastal Round Table 190 to provide a rich learning experience to the government school students, with added exposure to science and social science, has taken the form of audio-visual media room in Mannagudda school premises. The facility has been developed at a cost of Rs six lakh, where students of each class will be made to attend the audio-visual class for 40 minutes a day. The Coastal Round Table team has not only provided infrastructure facility, but also it has supplied the audio-visual materials required for teaching.
Explaining about the facility on the occasion of its inauguration at Mannagudda school on Sunday, Mangalore Coastal Round Table 190, Chairman Neil Rodrigues said that the basic objective behind developing the facility is to make the experience of learning appealling to all children. It can address three major issues of the government schools, by providing global exposure and content, meet the problem of shortage of staff to some extent and simultaneously educate children in English.
Round Table has prepared study materials of all subjects and languages (except Kannada), with special emphasis on Science, Math and English, for the students from I to VIII Std. Study materials like animated videos, content from National Geographic, NASA, English learning with correct accent and pronunciation are developed for an interesting learning experience. “We are ready to share the materials with other schools, if they are interested to pursue. The audio-visual room can also be used for community service activities,” Neil said.
School teacher Ganesh Kumar welcomed the initiative and said that the students responded extremely well to the system during the classes held on an experimental basis. With the school syllabus upgraded to CBSE, advanced learning facilties help in the learning process. Moreover, the teachers need not be necessarily present during the audio-visual session, he said.
Inaugurating the facility, Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader announced of sanctioning Rs 5 lakh each to three government schools in Mangalore North constituency (South Education Block) under MLA fund and requested the Round Table to develop similar audio-visual rooms in those schools.
