New Delhi, Apr 9: A 51-year-old Uber cab driver was killed allegedly by two passengers, both minors, in west Delhi's Mundka area for daring to retort to a joke involving the name of their native district.

Identified as 50-year-old Kuldeep Thakur, the dead driver hailed from Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh. His cab was booked by the two suspects from Mundka around 4 pm on Tuesday.
The passengers wanted to visit a friend's home in Hiran Kudna in West Delhi itself, the police said.
According to the police, the boys started a conversation with Thakur on their way to Hiran Kudna and asked him where he hailed from. Upon learning that he was a native of Mandi, the duo began mocking the name of the place, a senior police officer said, based on the initial questioning of the suspects.
“The driver felt humiliated and told the boys that Mundka, the place he had picked the duo from, was not a great name either. He also teased that their destination, Hiran Kudna, sounded funny. That left the boys insulted and enraged. One of them pulled out a revolver and shot Thakur in the head without a warning,” said the officer.
The duo then dumped the driver's body at a secluded place and fled. The police zeroed in on and tracked them down with the help of the online booking software, they said.
"Both juveniles have been apprehended," DCP (West) Pushpendra Kumar said. The driver was affiliated to both Uber and Ola cab aggregator services.
Uber in a statement later said, "Our thoughts are with the family of our driver-partner, the victim of this mindless violence. We have pro-actively shared details with the police to assist them with their investigation.
